We are very excited that Sophie Burke currently doing a PhD at the University of New Hampshire will be spending 10 months with the WaiBER team next year. Congratulations to Emma for getting a C. Alma Baker postgraduate scholarship for her MSc research on pasture pulling!

We are really excited to have Tanya O’Neill join the WaiBER team as a teaching fellow supporting soil, hydrological and environmental teaching. Tanya will also contribute to new research on temperature response of soil respiration.

Mahdiyeh brought us Iranian cookies for group meeting. Beautiful arrangement, lovely flavour.

Dave Campbell led a paper just accepted on carbon exchange at Moanatuatua, a restiad peat bog. He bought in a research cake to celebrate, see page here.

Alex and Anna have created a cake of their research projects. On the left an eddy covariance tower and board walk on a peat bog (Alex’s MSc project) and on the right Anna with her denitrification bed complete with sampling wells. In the background, Nadia looks amused, but probably wants to eat cake.

Congratulations to Liz who successfully defended her PhD thesis from Jakarta.
